Getting to Know Phragmites

Project Overview

Phragmites australis is an invasive plant causing great concern across the Great Lakes Basin.  Extensive management programs are in place in Canada and USA to control their expansion across the region. At the same time, local indigenous communities are curious to know more about the species and explore innovative ways to harness this plant for alternative economic and cultural benefits. HHL is partnering with Nature Conservancy Canada, Ojibway Nature Centre (City of Windsor), the Town of Kingsville and Bkejwanong Territory’s Walpole Island Land Trust and NinDaWaabJig to undertake multiple but connected projects to better understand the ecology of the species and to assess the toolbox of management options available.
