Science Communication / Lab Storyteller

  • Engage in listening, storytelling on behalf of HHL and community partners

  • Train in the use of social media platforms to inspire and reconnect the public(s) with freshwater ecosystems

  • Use creative works to share knowledge related to the work of the Ode'imin (Indigenous Knowledge Circle)

Outstanding Scholars Positions

Biodiversity Assessment & Benthic Biomonitoring – Learn how to identify benthic invertebrates from streams, drains, and wetlands of southern Ontario and contribute to our growing database of aquatic communities in human-impacted environments. Work in partnership in the community and participate in local fieldwork. Engage fully in all other HHL activities and training including partnership development and collaboration.

Carbon Characterization of Soil and Water – Learn how to operate analytical tools to characterize the carbon and nutrient levels in soil and water across human-impacted environments of southern Ontario. Work in partnership in the community and participate in local fieldwork. Engage fully in all other HHL activities and training including partnership development and collaboration.

Ecosystem Approach & Science-Policy - Learn about the connections between science and its' role in decision-making at local, regional and global levels. Engage in knowledge synthesis for the purposes of policy-relevant outputs (writing and communication products for a range of audiences). Engage fully in all other HHL activities and training including partnership development and collaboration.

We value whole people with diverse gifts. All HHL team members - including undergrads! - will also undergo training and capacity-strengthening in Indigenous-led research and community partnerships in a decolonial/anti-colonial & feminist approach to science training and team building.
