Alyssa Frazao, MSc

Stream Ecology & Biomonitoring Technician

she/her

Alyssa is the lab's stream ecology and benthic biomonitoring guru. With OBBN training under her belt, she’s identified thousands of macroinvertebrates collected from across Windsor-Essex County, the Sydenham river, and helps Conservation Authorities with their own macroinvertebrate identifications. She also works in GLIER’s OANL lab as a technician, analyzing water samples for various nutrients such as concentrations of Ammonia and Nitrates.

As the HHL’s lab manager, she helps keep everyone organized within our office spaces and is ready to give a helping hand. Fortunately, not all her time is spent indoors! As the Field Technician, she makes sure that equipment is running accurately and efficiently, as well as providing others with the knowledge they need to have a safe and successful day of field data collection.

In 2019 she completed Master’s Degree evaluating invertebrate community composition in slow-flowing waterways that make up the Clay Plains region of southwestern Ontario. She determined which protocol most effectively and efficiently was conducive to bioassessment of these habitats both in the collection and sorting protocols of benthic samples.
